Sarita Gelner : Cardamom Maple Pear Chips
Q + A
Tell me about yourself!
I am a mom of two daughters, a Sri Lankan American baker, blogger, and cocktail shaker! I was on the last season of The Great American Baking Show and do regular TV cooking segments on various shows. I am all about innovative baking and expressing creativity through bold flavors and spice.
What do you love about this recipe, and how has it helped you with feeding your toddler?
These cardamom pear chips are crispy, sweet, lightly spiced, and a great way to get kids to eat fruit! My kids love fruits and veggies, however, it’s always fun to change how I give them healthy snacks and make fruits more versatile. Giving them a handful of pear chips is so much more nutritious than fried varieties of chips. Kids appreciate the crunch and portable nature of this snack along with the touch of sweetness.
What is your biggest tip when it comes to feeding a toddler?
My kids want whatever I am eating, so I have a fruit or veggie in hand when I know they’ll come running to investigate what I’m having! It keeps us all healthy. But as a baker, I encourage everything in moderation. So we definitely end our day with some carbs and sugar!
How do you keep your children entertained when prepping a meal?
I include them in meal prep. They have their own aprons and kid rolling pins, kiddie knives for mushroom and soft veggie cutting, and more! They love being with me in the kitchen and making IG videos too!
